Vaughn Moore

March 26, 1949 — September 11, 2021

Vaughn Anthony Moore passed away peacefully Sept. 11 at Garnet Medical Center after a loving and fulfilling life. He was 72. Born March 26, 1949, in Goshen, he was the son of Arthur and Madeline Moore. Vaughn was a graduate of Goshen High School, where he was a local legend, achieving All-County honors in football and track. He served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Orange Regional after more than 30 years. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Audeen; son Aaron and his wife Afa; daughter Madeline; grandsons Noah and Amani; sister Deborah Broger; and numerous nieces and nephews. His brother Donald and sister Estella "Tinny" Lockhart predeceased him. Vaughn was a loving husband and father and was proud of his early and on-going efforts for social justice and civil rights. His band, Lil Dynamite and the Explosions, often played at civil rights-related events in the late 1960's. He also worked to integrate what was then an all-white Goshen Fire Dept. Services will be held at Donovan Funeral Home in Goshen on Wed., Sept. 15, at 10 a.m.-12 noon. Masks are required. All are welcome. Private burial will follow for family. The family will reconvene at the Village of Maybrook Park Pavilion at 2 p.m. to be comforted by family, friends and food. The family extends deep appreciation and thanks to the nursing staff at Garnet Medical Center. In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Vaughn's life, the family asks that those who wish to express sympathy do so by making a charitable donation in his name to any organization that promotes and fights for civil rights and racial justice. This will continue his legacy.
