Robert R. Schmeltz, 82, of Goshen died Monday, December 5, 2011 at home. Robert was born June 5, 1929 in Newark, NJ, the son of the late Sophie Durma Schmeltz and Raymond Schmeltz. He grew up in Irvington, NJ and spent childhood summers in Mt. Lodge on the farm. Robert was an auto mechanic beginning in the 40's at Mapes Garage, Chester, NY, and for 40 years at R.I. Suresky and Son in Goshen; he served in the U.S. Army in Korea, 1951-53, and was a long time member and past commander of Goshen Post 377 American Legion. He loved hunting, fishing and woodworking, creating custom furniture pieces for his home. He was predeceased by his wife Anna (Nancy) House Schmeltz in January of 2008. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara A. Loyas and her husband Joseph of New Hampton; two granddaughters, Jeremy Fairchild and husband Michael of Matamoras, PA; Melissa Duncan and her husband David of Versailles, KY; and great-grandson, Liam Duncan. Robert's brother, Richard Schmeltz and wife Suzanne live in Spring Lake Heights, NJ. He is also survived by his longtime right hand man Lee Dempsey. His aides Denise and Sarah, along with their entire family, made his last years comfortable and happy. Services and Internment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family gives thanks to Dr's Obligado and Colvin and their staff at Harriman Dialysis for their caring, compassion, and smiles.
