Robert Kelly

January 22, 1943 — June 25, 2016

Robert K. Kelly of Middletown and formally of Ossining, NY, died at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital on June 25,2016. Born in Brooklyn, Bob was the loving son of Joseph and Claire Walsh Kelly. After graduating from Archbishop Stepinac High School Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. He was an electrical engineer on the aircraft carrier USS Essex CVS 9 where he was deployed throughout Europe, the Middle East, and participated in the Cuban Missile Crisis in October of 1962. Following his honorable discharge he worked in the communications industry and became an engineer for NYNEX Business Systems Division. He later became the owner of Beasley's Lock Shop in Ossining, NY. Bob was an amazing craftsman who always had many projects and plans to put his talents to good use. He could renovate an old run-down cider mill and turn it into a charming house that would be the envy of any fixer-upper seen on TV today. He built a 34 foot boat in his backyard and sailed it down the Intracoastal Waterway to the west coast of Florida ....and back! He was also generous with sharing his skills by helping family, friends, and neighbors with countless projects around their homes. He lived by his motto, "Let's just do it" until the end of his life. He leaves a legacy of love to all who knew him.... Bob is survived by his grieving mother, Claire, his loving and heart-broken wife, Therese, and the light of his life - his adored daughter, Mary Kate. He is also mourned by the many members of the Mahoney Family who cherished him as a beloved brother and uncle. A much-meant thank you to the doctors and especially to the nurses and staff on 12th Floor at Sloan Kettering for their loving care of Bob during the thirty-four days he spent in the hospital - they are the angels that live among us and the family is so grateful. In keeping with Bob's wishes a gathering of family and friends will take place at a later date. A Memorial Mass and burial will be scheduled at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your favorite charity. Bob loved children and pets - especially his waggely-tailed pup, Tallula.....both gave him much joy!
