Robert Frederick

Bob Frederick, born Dec 27, 1927 in Jamaica, Queens to parents Martin Frederick and Anna Barrett, passed away on April 15th surrounded by family. Bob attended Jamaica High School and Queens College. He served two tours in the US Navy between 1946 and 1953 aboard the escort carrier USS Tripoli. After his service, he returned to Jamaica and worked as a Life Guard on Rockaway Beach. An amateur gymnast, he attracted his future wife, Patricia while showing off his high-bar skills in Cunningham Park, Queens. Bob married Patricia Anne Leavy in 1951 at the Church of the Incarnation, Queens. For over 42 years, Bob was fondly known throughout Orange, Sullivan and Ulster Counties as a visiting NCR field engineer. Bob was an assistant Boy Scout leader while his sons Bob, Bill and Tom were scouts and was an active member of St John's Parish since moving to Goshen in 1954 where he taught CCD pre-Confirmation classes. Bob was a talented athlete and enjoyed swimming, downhill skiing and water skiing. After retirement, Bob competed in the New York State Senior Games for over a decade winning over 80 medals in swimming, running and long-jump events. When not competing he was famous for doing handstands on demand. An adventurous and loving dad who was also adored by all of his grandchildren, he passed on his love of sports, nature and adventure as a patient teacher. He was an outdoorsman and nature lover. He was an avid birdwatcher and helped the Audubon Society with annual hawk migration counts. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia of 67 years and children Bob, Bill, Tom and daughter Kathy Harden and grandchildren Brittany Harden and Nicole, Jonathan and Marielle Frederick. He was pre-deceased by his parents and brother Raymond. Memorial Visitation will be Friday, April 20, from 9:30 to 10:15 am at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 am at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen, NY. Burial will be immediately following Mass in the Orange County Veteran's Cemetery, Goshen, NY.
