Robert Byrnes

Robert K. Byrnes, 79, of Goshen, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Glen Arden Health Care Center, Goshen, NY. Robert was born September 27, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Thomas J. Byrnes and Catherine (Smith) Byrnes. Robert was a graduate of 1957 from the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and he served in the U.S. Navy and retired as Navy Captain U.S. Naval Reserve after 30 years of service. He was Director of Special Mission Ships, Military Sealift Command, Bayonne, NJ. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America; receiving some of the highest awards including the Silver Beaver. He was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow; and Past President of the Holy Name Society at Holy Family Church in Staten Island. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie A. Byrnes at home; his children, Robert J. Byrnes and wife Donna of West Islip, NY; Coleen Zimmer and husband Scott of Washingtonville, NY and Kevin M. Byrnes and wife Kari of Staten Island, NY; 8 grandchildren, Liam, Erin, Kerri, Patrick, Jack, Thomas, Aidan and Rachel and many cherished nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, August 13 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Friday, August 14 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM & 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at St. John The Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen, NY.
