Richard (Dick) "Poppy" Ballard Campbell Hall, New York Richard W. Ballard, 89, of Campbell Hall passed away, with his family around him, Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Orange Regional Medical Center Horton Campus, Middletown, NY. Richard was born March 8, 1921 in Warwick, NY, the son of the late William and Sophia (Eurich) Ballard. He was the husband of Roberta M. Marchione Ballard. Dick was a Dairy Farmer, a member of the Otterkill Engine Company for 66 years was Past Chief and served as Fire Commissioner and Chariman of the Board, a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Hamptonburgh, member of the Hamptonburgh Grange, Director of the Mid Hudson Co-op Insurance Co., served on the board of the Hamptonburgh Cemetery and the Town of Hamptonburgh Planning and Town Boards. Dick loved his community, his farm and most of all his family, known by his grandchildren, great grandchildren and most of his friends as "Poppy". He loved baseball and played as first baseman until he was 65. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Ballard at home; children, James Ballard and wife Gaye of Campbell Hall, Christine Drake and husband Everett of Campbell Hall, Thomas Ballard and companion Rosemary Sloan of Ellenville and Patricia Cullen and husband Robert of Campbell Hall; sisters, Mildred Hazekamp of Washingtonville and Helen Baird of Mineville, NY; grandchildren, Christian (Tuffy) Theile and husband Ron, Marc Ballard, Kimberly Weinert and husband Albert, Eleanor DeRosa and finace Keith, Anthony DeRosa and wife Tina, Michael DeRosa, Christopher Ballard, Stephanie Cullen-Stockman and husband Christopher, Susan Cullen and Carolyn Flanagan and husband Brian; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by his parents, first wife Eleanor Ballard (Feb. 1974) and his brother Jack Ballard. Visitation will be Monday, February 28 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM & 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 1 at First Presbyterian Church Of Hamptonburgh, with Reverend Gary Fox officiating. Burial will be in Hamptonburgh Cemetery, Hamptonburgh, NY.
