Raymond J.
Gonzalez
November 23, 1931 – May 12, 2026
Raymond J. Gonzalez, known lovingly as Ray, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, at his home in Goshen, New York, of natural causes. He was 94 years old. Born on November 23, 1931, in Alpha, New Jersey, to the late Francisco Gonzalez and the late Mary Kosztik,
Ray grew up with a strong work ethic and an unwavering determination that would define the rest of his life. He married the love of his life, Maria, and together they settled in New York City, where they raised their two daughters. Ray tried his hand at many trades before finding his true calling as a barber. He eventually owned his own barbershop, a source of great pride. After relocating from the city, he worked at Mario's Professional Barbershop in Nanuet, New York, for an extraordinary 43 years, a testament to his dedication and loyalty.
Ray worked six days a week, yet he devoted every day off to his family. Whether it was a trip to the beach, a visit to the zoo, or an outing to a park, he ensured that each moment together was filled with learning and joy.
He was a man of remarkable skill who could build or repair nearly anything. His adventurous spirit knew no bounds; even after becoming an above the knee amputee, he took up skiing. He loved archery, bowling, and sports of all kinds.
His generosity extended beyond his own household. He was always a good neighbor, willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. He even allowed his family to keep numerous pets, happily relocating to new residences when pet restrictions required it.
Ray was a man of his word. If he said he was going to do something, he did it. He was always smiling, always dependable, and his work ethic was unsurpassed.
His deep and abiding faith in God carried him through the most difficult times in his life, and that faith remained a cornerstone of his character until his final days.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria Gonzalez; his parents, Francisco Gonzalez and Mary Kosztik; and his brothers, Richard Gonzalez and Sonny Gonzalez. He is survived by his devoted daughters, Diane Gonzalez and her wife Anita Wezer; Yvonne Evans and her husband Brian; two grandchildren; Korey and wife Ashley Evans, and Lindsay Bollbach and husband Chris; three great grandchildren: Bryson and Nolan Evans and Hannah Bollbach, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A private burial will be held with immediate family. Ray followed his faith and was a person who made the world a better place. May he rest in the eternal peace of the Lord he served so faithfully.
