Kathryne Hansen

Kathryne Smythe Hansen Goshen, New York Kathryne Smythe Hansen, 87, a lifelong Goshen resident passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at The Carlucci Home, Greenville, Port Jervis, NY. Kathryne was born October 30, 1923 in New York, NY, the daughter of the late Rev. Edwin Ridgeway Smythe and the late Kathryne (Batchelder) Smythe. She married Edgar Hansen, of Goshen, NY, on June 30, 1945 at St. James Episcopal Church in Goshen. They were married for 64 years, Edgar died March 24, 2005. Kathryne was a graduate of the Academy of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Broadlea in Goshen, where she returned as Musical Director. She received her BS Degree from Fredonia State University and her Masters of Arts, Education from New York University. She enjoyed a long career in teaching music at S.S. Seward Institute, Florida, NY. For many years she was the choir director and organist at St. James Episcopal Church in Goshen. In 1964 she was the town Chorus Director for the 250th Anniversary of the Village of Goshen. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryne Chase Hansen of Hartsdale, NY; sons, Edgar Hansen Jr. and wife Beth Ann of New Paltz, NY and Rev. Dr. Thomas Parker Hansen and wife Nancy McCammon Hansen of Fort Wayne, IN; and grandson, Christopher Parker Hansen of New York, NY; sisters, Sarah Bonnen and husband, James of East Lansing, MI and Anne Smythe of East Ampton, NJ; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Eucharist will be held Monday, July 11 at11:00 am at St. James Episcopal Church, 1 St. James Place, Goshen, NY with Rev. M. Carl Lunden officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Columbarium, Goshen, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, All Saints Fund, 1 St. James Place, Goshen, NY 10924.
