Kathryn Kent

Kathryn "Kay" Joyce Kent Goshen, NY Kathryn J. Kent, 78, of Goshen passed away after a prolonged illness at home on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Kathryn was born March 29, 1934 in Walton, New York. She was the youngest child of Ralph James Kent and Lillian Salton Kent. She was raised by her father and step mother, Elma Howland Kent, after her mother passed away when Kathryn was very young. Upon graduating from SUNY Cortland, she taught briefly in the Rochester School System before obtaining her Master's Degree from Michigan State University. Upon graduating from Michigan State, she accepted a teaching position in the Goshen School District from which she retired after 34 years as an elementary school teacher. Kathryn was devoted to her students and was especially fond of following them as they grew up. She enjoyed giving of her time and considerable talents as a volunteer for many charitable organizations such as Senior Meals, Reading for the Blind, The Red Door Thrift Shop Charity and the Office of the Aging. She loved to play Bridge with friends and was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brother James Salton Kent. She is survived by her Sister in Law and life-long friend Ann Kent. Nephews; David Kent, Stephen Kent and his wife Rebecca, John Kent and his wife Leslie. She was great "Auntie Kak" to Angela, Kaitlin, Christopher, James and Riley Kent. The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness of our cousin Ruthie, and friends, Orra, Karen, Mary, Ronnie, Peggy and all those who loved and cared for her. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 22rd, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Church Street, Goshen. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 23th at the First Presbyterian Church of Goshen at 33 Park Place, Goshen at 9:00 AM. Interment will be at Walton Cemetery, Walton, NY directly after services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathryn's name to the First Presbyterian Church of Goshen at 33 Park Place, Goshen, NY 10924.
