Katherine C. Hawes Goshen, New York Katherine C. Hawes, 95, of Goshen, NY died Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Orange Regional Medical Center-Arden Hill Campus in Goshen. Katherine was born October 18, 1913 in Staatsburg, NY, the daughter of John and Grace (Schryver) Crapser. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis J. Hawes in1984. Katherine graduated from the University of Albany with her degree in Mathematics; she was one of the first women math teachers in New York. She was head of the Math Department for the Cornwall School District. A working perfectionist, substitute parent, learned woman, a grand inquisitor (at times) and a confidant for some of the most important secrets in the world..whose heart has been big enough to be all these things to many. Katherine loved to play the piano, play golf and go fishing. She also loved travelling, good food and adored music. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Vera Brady; close and long time friend, Gigi Yarusso and husband Frederick; and good friend Ruth Duttweiler. Visitation and Memorial Service will be Saturday, August 22, 2009 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. Burial will be in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park, Hyde Park, NY. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 18, 2009 on Katherine's birthday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 58 Clinton Street, Cornwall, NY 12518. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. Arrangements under the care of the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., Goshen.
