Katharine Fitzgerald

Katharine F. Fitzgerald (Fitzy) entered into rest at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence on July 4, 2022. She was born in Middletown on July 1, 1946 to the late Arthur and Helen (Cahill) Fitzgerald. Kathy began her career as a teller at Valley National Bank, retiring as Vice President of Provident Bank. Through hard work and perseverance, Kathy broke the glass ceiling and was an inspiration to countless young women. Kathy touched many people through all walks of her professional and personal life. She was a loyal/fierce advocate for all – not only for those she loved, but also for those whom she represented in her multiple volunteer positions. She was a board member of Inspire of Orange County, Community Foundation of Orange & Sullivan Counties, United Way of Orange County, Orange County Chamber of Commerce & the Goshen Rotary Club. Through all of these endeavors Kathy made multiple acquaintances and friends. One could travel with her to far away states and she would, inevitably, know someone in a restaurant/airport terminal/hotel/etc. She was blessed with a great sense of humor – no one who knew Fitzy was safe from her practical jokes. She enjoyed a good time and her infectious laugh and gregarious personality will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Her brother, John, recently stated that her older siblings were "elated when she was born – she brought us so much joy". She spread this joy to everyone she encountered throughout her (too short) lifetime. Thank you, Kathy, for all of the joy and support you have provided to all of us who love you. Kathy is survived by her longtime companion Joseph Majowicz , brother John Fitzgerald, as well as numerous nieces/nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her siblings – Mary Gramm (Theodore), William Fitzgerald (Patricia), and Helen Rueckert (John). Visitation will be Thursday July 7 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Donovan Funeral Home in Goshen NY. A prayer service to celebrate her life will commence at 5:30 pm.
