Julius "Bud" Hohl Buckholz Goshen, New York Julius "Bud" Hohl Buckholz, 86, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at his home in Goshen. Bud was born June 8, 1924 in Orange, CT, the son of Joseph and Amelia Hohl Buckholz. For the past 20 days, he was the widower of Ruth Mary McGonigle Buckholz, who predeceased him on November 15, 2010. They were married for 65 years. Dad died of a broken heart. Bud was a Navy veteran who enlisted during World War II and served on the USS SLOAT, a Destroyer Escort in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. Bud's rank was Petty Officer 1st Class. While in the Navy, he met Ruth Mary McGonigle, the love of his life, whom he eventually married on June 17, 1945. After the war, he and Ruth settled in Massapequa, Long Island, NY and raised their family. Following a 30 year career, he retired as a tax accountant from the NY Telephone Company and then eventually moved to Bayonet Point, FL. Bud and Ruth recently relocated permanently to Goshen to enjoy the remainder of their years. Throughout his life, Bud volunteered his time for various organizations. Bud leaves behind, always to cherish his memory, daughters, Barbara A. Farrell of New Port Richie, FL and Donna M. McLoughlin and her husband John of Goshen; his brother, Donald Buckholz and wife Shirley of Bayonet Point, FL; sisters-in-law, Midge Buckholz of New Haven, CT and Margaret Buckholz of Lugoff, SC; 4 loving grandchildren, Steven, Caitlin, J.J. and Erin and many nieces and nephews. The family deeply and sorrowfully miss, and will forever carry in their hearts, both Nanny and Poppy. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all those who generously and compassionately became part of our family, especially Marie Colgan, Dr. John Ferguson and the Hospice nurses and staff. Their support and kindness helped us to cope through this most difficult time. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 11 at 10:30 am at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen, NY. Burial will be Private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bud's name to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
