Josephine A. DeLuca Obituary

Josephine Amante DeLuca, 88, of Chester, NY entered into rest on Monday, January 1, 2024, at home in Chester after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Josephine was born on July 8, 1935, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Salvatore J. and the late Francesca L. (Artuso) Amante.

She graduated from Bay Ridge High School and went on to study Art History at Brooklyn College. There she met Vincent J. DeLuca. They married on February 9, 1957.

Josephine began her career teaching art in Chester, NY. The Air Force then took Vincent and Josephine to Washington, D.C. for a few years. They moved back to NY where she continued teaching art in Goshen, NY for 29 years.

Josephine was an active member of St. John The Evangelist R.C. Church in Goshen. She and Vincent implemented First Friday Eucharistic Adoration, which continues today. They also volunteered for food distribution in the community. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Genevieve Walsh # 918 for 20 years.

Josephine had a natural love of cooking and baking, especially for her family. She was a true artist who felt at home in front of her easel or with her sketch pad. She was always drawing her family and nature.

Josephine is survived by her husband, Vincent DeLuca, of Chester and her children David and the late Colleen DeLuca of Sicklerville, NJ, Lauren and Bill Santos of Cornelius, NC, and Matthew and Marlene DeLuca of Glen Ridge, NJ. Also, her siblings Theresa Ponessa, John & Dee Amante, Salvatore & Jean Amante, Francine Carmody, and her sister-in-law Jerrilyn DeLuca

She is further survived by her thirteen grandchildren David Vincent DeLuca (Tami), Jennifer Cantrell, Jonathan DeLuca (Jennifer), Kathryn DeLuca, Sara Locantore (Jon), Alessondra Moser (Todd), Amanda Horvath (Daniel), Alyssa Santos, Andrew Santos (Stephanie), Anthony Santos, Madeline, Maia, and Matthew J. DeLuca.

She is also survived by fifteen great grandchildren Victoria, Dominic, Zachary, Hannah, Emma Josephine, Analeis, Garrett, Sicily, Elizabeth, Oliver, Eleanora Colleen, Rhyder, Sofia, Kennedy, Joanna.

Visitation will be Monday, January 8, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY 10924. A Mass of Christian burial to celebrate Josephine's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at St. John The Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Avenue, Goshen, NY. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Chester, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Josephine's name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777.
