John Rueckert

John J. Rueckert, Sr. of Rock Tavern, NY entered into rest on September 27, 2018 at 93 years of age. Son of the late Grace & John Rueckert he was born on September 25, 1925. John married his beloved Helen (Fitzgerald) Rueckert on September 29, 1956 and passed away in time to join her in heaven for their 62nd wedding anniversary. He is survived by his children Helen G. Rueckert, Elizabeth M. Rueckert, John J. Rueckert, Jr. (Barbara Jean), Michael J. Rueckert (Laura), Joan E. Rueckert and his grandchildren Allyson, Jesse, William and Michael. He also leaves behind his faithful canine companion Ginger. John was born in Ozone Park, NY and worked to help support his family from a young age. He was a WWII Navy veteran, petty officer 2nd class and served on the USS Springfield in the Pacific theatre. John was a hardworking man who dedicated his life to his family and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He was a jack of all trades who read voraciously and had knowledge in many areas. Before we had computers, we had dad. A frequently used phrase: "Let's call Rucky – he'll know the answer". He will be sorely missed by all. The family would like to thank those who gave him comfort and compassionate care at the Montgomery Nursing Home as well as his wonderful Rock Tavern neighbors who were always there when he/we needed a hand. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, October 13th at 10AM at St. John the Evangelist RC Church, 71 Murray Avenue, Goshen NY. The interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Montgomery NY.
