John P. Lucas, 37, known to family and friends as J.P. passed away on July 19, 2026, in Poughkeepsie.

John was born on February 6, 1989 in Poughkeepsie, NY, to Stephen Lucas and Maureen Moran Lucas.

J.P. was beloved by his friends and his family throughout his entire life, maybe most especially by his two younger sisters. J.P had a very difficult life and battled mental health struggles for many years. Even in the moments when he had so little, he gave anything he had to those in need.

He will be remembered best for his amazing sense of humor, his deep understanding of the value of a good prank, and his generous heart. He was deeply beloved in all stages of his life and for those who were able to participate in supporting and caring for him including his cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents, we are eternally grateful.

J.P. is survived by his parents Stephen and Maureen Lucas of Campbell Hall, NY; sisters, Emily Gasperini (Daniel Gasperini) of Newburgh, Hannah Lucas (Evan Pokrandt) of Brooklyn, and his niece and nephew Cece and Ernie Gasperini.

Visitation will be on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 1-4 PM at the Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, with a prayer service beginning at 3:30 PM.
