John Henry Lewis, Sr., 87, of Campbell Hall, died Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY. John was born September 21, 1929 in Ringwood, the son of Leroy and Ida Lewis. He served in the US Army during the Korean War as First Sergeant; retired from Local 754, Chestnut Ridge, NY after 53 years; was a volunteer fireman for Otterkill Engine and Hose Co., Campbell Hall, NY as well as the Fire Police for 29 years.. John was a Hamptonburgh Fire Commissioner for 26 years. He is survived by his wife, Eileen E. Lewis at home; sons, Kenneth Lewis of Campbell Hall and John H. Lewis, Jr. of Ellenville, NY; brother, LeRoy Lewis; sisters, Ida Hewitt of Middletown, NY, Bertha Smith and Gloria Siegmund both of Bradington, FL; three granddaughters, Kelly Capozzoli, Heather Dunham and Brittany Lewis; four grandsons, John Henry Lewis III, Steven Patrick Lewis, Douglas William Lewis, Kenneth Thomas Lewis, Jr.; great grandchildren, Logan Capozzoli, Marcus Lewis, Isabella Lewis, Jaslyn Lewis and Jace Capozzoli. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Ernest and Leo Lewis; and his sister, Martha Lewis. Visitation will be Monday, December 5 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church St., Goshen, NY. Burial will follow in Orange County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Goshen.
