John M. Edwards, 89, of Chester, died Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. John was born February 25, 1927 in Chester, NY, the son of John and Margaret (Dowling) Edwards. John served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War; was a volunteer fireman in the Chester Fire Dept and past Captain; member of Knights of Columbus; AOH, Monroe; the Chester Volunteer Ambulance Corp and all Veterans organizations in Valley View. He was retired from the U.S. Post Office, Chester, NY as Post Master. He is survived by his Goddaughter, Michele Deshler and her children, John Paul and Keith Hackett; brothers, Donald Edwards and wife Fay of State of Florida, Murphy Edwards of Chester, NY; sisters, Eileen Shanley and her son Michael of Goshen, Mary Jane Freeman and husband Harvey of Middletown; niece Donna Wargo and husband Jerry and Margaret Freeman and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, and sisters, Catherine and Margaret Edwards. Visitation will be Monday, November 14 from 5 to 8 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen, NY. Burial will follow in Orange County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Goshen, NY.
