James Applegate

James J. Applegate, 85, of Goshen entered into rest on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. James was born March 26, 1928 in Milltown, NJ, the son of James and Josephine (Gruber) Applegate. He served during the Korean War in the U.S. Army from1950 to 1952. Jim began his career employed at Amerchol and retired as an Analytical Chemist. He attended Rutgers University receiving his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and went on to receive his Masters degree from Seton Hall. He was the former Commander of the American Legion, Middletown Lodge Post 151, former Commander of the Catholic War Veterans, St. John's Council, Goshen, together, Jim and Madeline volunteered with Bingo at the Valley View Nursing Home in Goshen, they were active with the Right to Life, Jim was a money counter for St. John's Church every Sunday, devoted Catholic, active member at St. John's Church, he loved to watch sports, very dedicated to his family, he was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Madeline Applegate at home; children, Theresa Ann Applegate of Cathedral City, CA, JoAnn Applegate of New Jersey, and James J. Applegate of Goshen, NY; brothers, Leo Applegate and Arthur Applegate; sisters, Josephine Kuncewitch, Agnes Fox, and Dolores Doktorski. sisters-in-laws, Josephine Welter and Marie Cox, and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Albert Applegate and three sisters, Veronica Miller, Geraldine Howell and Mary Lou Schmitt, and brothers-in-law, Andrew Welter and John Cox. Visitation will be Friday, July 26 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 am on Saturday, July 27 at St. John The Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen, NY. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Orange County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Goshen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's name to St. John's Church, 71 Murray Avenue, Goshen, NY 10924 or a charity of one's choice. A very special thanks to his Doctors and caring staff, Orange Regional Medical Center, the Valley View Center for nursing care and rehabilitation, GOVAC, and the town of Goshen Police Dept.
