Jaime Marquez

August 25, 1945 — January 9, 2024

Jaime "Papo" Marquez, age 78, of Campbell Hall, NY, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. He bravely battled thoracic and liver cancer for almost year.

Jaime was born August 25, 1945, in Carolina, Puerto Rico (La Isla del Encanto), the son of Faustino and Gregoria (Hiraldo) Marquez. He spent his primary and secondary years in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Jaime migrated to New York in his early adulthood, where he spent several years traveling and living between New York and Puerto Rico before settling with his family in the Bronx. In retirement, he returned to his home county for a short period of time only to relocate back to New York to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Jaime spent his later years in Orange County, NY. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Julia A. Marquez, his sisters, Laura Marquez and Carmen Marquez, his son, Jimmy Marquez, his son's partner, Adriana Collado, ex-daugther-in-law, Nikaury Perez, granddaughter, Ariadnna Marquez, grandson, Alexander Marquez, daughter, Maria Marquez-Mckerrell, son-in-law, Michael Mckerrell, daughter, Gail M. Marquez, his daughter's partner, Nicholas Colon, granddaughter, Leila S. Colon, daughter, Ramona Marquez, grandson, Jeffery J. Ramos, granddaughter, Hailey A. Romos, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom loved him as much as he loved them. Besides his parents, Jaime was predeceased by his sister, Abigail Marquez, and brother, Reyes Marquez.

Jaime was a proud and stubborn Puerto Rican with a warm smile, who spent hours listening to the isla politics on local radio stations. He woke up early mornings and savored a good cup of Café Bustelo. Jaime remained active, even as the cancer progressed, focusing his time on home renovations. Similar to his father, he most enjoyed being outdoors and connecting with nature. Although he spent the majority of his life working as a truck driver, he could be described as a "jack of all trades". He was a quiet and reserved man that prided himself on his work ethics and values. He was never late for an appointment and had an uncanny ability to remember numbers. Jaime enjoyed cooking as much as he enjoyed eating. His favorite meal was a big plate of arroz con habichuelas y pollo con ensalada. On occasion, he was known to eat a traditional NYC slice of pizza with a coca cola. A former Bronx resident, he rooted for the NY Yankees and appreciated watching a good, old-fashion baseball game. As a husband and father, he demonstrated his love for his wife and children through his sacrifices. His family is deeply grateful for the time they spent with him, for the laughter they shared, and for the sacrifices he made to provide them with the opportunity to live the American Dream. They will miss him dearly. As his family says goodbye, they hope to honor him by living a life that reflects his values, of love, loyalty, responsibility, hard work, and courage.

"Nos volveremos a ver en el paraíso. Nosotros te amamos Papi".
