Obituary

Henry W. Hartman
June 21, 1961 - July 6, 2026

Henry W. Hartman, 65, was born in Brooklyn and raised in the close-knit communities of Broad Channel and Howard Beach, New York. He passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, in New Hampton, New York, following a lengthy illness, with his beloved wife, Marie Murphy Hartman, by his side.

Born to Henry Hartman and Madeleine Georgiana Hartman, Henry lived a life defined by loyalty, devotion to family, and an appreciation for life's simple pleasures. On September 13, 1992, he married the love of his life, Marie, beneath a palm tree in Isla Verde, Puerto Rico - a joyful day that remained one of their favorite memories.

Henry's greatest happiness came from spending time with family. He was a devoted uncle to Alyssa, William, Arthur, Robert, PJ, Jackie, Amanda, Matt, Eddie, Maggie, Missy, and KT; and a proud great-uncle to Logan, Mason, Cheyenne, Kaitlyn, Kristina, Kathleen, Bella, Aiden, Cameron, Will, and Ray. Whether tinkering with his computer, watching television, playing pool, or enjoying a spirited game of Rummikub, Henry found contentment in the company of those he loved. Henry retired from The Arc of the Greater Hudson Valley as a bus driver where he enjoyed the company of his passengers and his colleagues.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; his siblings, Linda Hartman Dewey (James Dewey) and Barbara Hartman Byrnes (Mike Byrnes); his brothers-in-law, James Hennessy (Mary Jo) and Peter Murphy (Sonya); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews whose lives he touched with his quiet kindness and steady presence. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry Hartman and Madeleine Georgiana Hartman, and his sister, Kathleen Grillman.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 9, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Donovan Funeral Home in Goshen, New York. A private burial service will take place on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Henry's name to CARE of DC - the rescue organization where he adopted his beloved dog, Ollie - or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, two causes close to his heart.
