Harry Vaughan

Harry Buddy Vaughan, of Goshen, NY formerly of Wolcott, CT died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Orange Regional Medical Center-Arden Hill Campus. He was 88. Son of the late Charles William Vaughan and Axie G. Johnson of Naugatuck, CT, he was born November 9, 1919 in Waterbury, CT. Harry was the widower of Cremilyn Marra Vaughan. Bud was a retired pharmacist, a professional musician, and a Veteran of World War II. He was the owner of Vaughans Pharmacy in Wolcott from 1956 to 1987. His long musical career, which was his first love, spans from before the age of 12 when he won the talent contest at the Palace Theatre in Waterbury, to the age of 83 when health issues forced him to put down his trumpet. During that period of time he played under the baton of such maestros as Arthur Fieldler, Johnny Mandrell, Skitch Henderson, LeRoy Anderson and Alvino Ray. He was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. He saw action in New Guinea and the PHillipines from 1942 to 1946. Survivors include his children, Valerie Vaughan of Manhattan, NY, Vita Dowdell and her husband Chris of Goshen, NY and Daniel Vaughan of Lichfield, CT. Bud had 5 grandchildren, Eric, Katie and Kristen Dowdell and Danielle and Mathew Vaughan. Bud was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. His laughter and his music will live in our hearts forever. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 5, from 9:30 10:30 am at the Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Church St., Goshen. With a Funeral Service in the Funeral Home at 10:30 am with Father Carl Lunden officiating. A Graveside Service and Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Meridan Road, Waterbury, CT at 1:00 pm.
