Lt. Col. Harold M. Cooper Goshen, New York Retired Lt. Col. Harold M. Cooper, 94, a Goshen resident, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Valley View Center for Nursing Care & Rehab, Goshen , NY . Born March 6, 1918 in Syracuse , NY , the son of Jacob and Rose (Epstein) Cooper. He met his wife Madeleine in NYC and was happily married for 60 years before her passing in 2002. They had a loving daughter Suzanne. Harold served his country proudly for 20 years, retiring as Lt. Col. from the U.S. Air Force. He graduated bombardiers school in California in 1943 and as a Navigator he flew 35 missions over Germany during World War II and earned the distinguished flying cross among numerous other medals and citations. During his career he also served as a liaison officer at Wheelus Air Force Base in Tripoli , where he was awarded the Grand Order of Independence Medal in 1961 by the King of Libya, King Idres, Harold retired in 1962. He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Henderson and her husband Robert Henderson; 2 grandchildren, Robert Henderson, and Daniel Henderson and wife Melissa; 3 great grandchildren, Ryan, Christina and Alyssa. He was predeceased by 2 brothers and his sister, Marion. Many thanks to the nurses and staff at Valley View Rehab for the good care and kindness they gave to Harold Visitation will be Tuesday, October 2 from 11:30 to 12:30 pm at Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church Street , Goshen , NY . Military Graveside Services and burial will follow in Orange County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery , Goshen . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harold's name to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 18th Street, NW Washington, D.C. 20006-3517 Arrangements under the care of the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., Goshen .
