GEORGE W. MC GINNIS GOSHEN, NEW YORK George W. McGinnis, 96, of Goshen, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2008 with his daughter Nancy by his side at Orange Regional Medical Center-Arden Hill Campus, Goshen. George was born August 31, 1912 in Jersey City, NJ the son of Joseph and Mabel (Stone) McGinnis. George began teaching Industrial Arts at Goshen High School in 1940. He retired from Goshen High in 1977 but continued to volunteer in the woodworking lab until he suffered a stroke in 2000. At the door to the woodworking lab is currently a plaque with the inscription: George McGinnis Technology Wing - Teacher, Craftsman, Friend. With Appreciation for Years of Dedication to the Young People of Goshen. George was also an avid aviator. He was a commanding officer in the Civil Air Patrol. He founded the Goshen Gremlins Club, in which youth would build and fly model airplanes. He later became an active radio control model airplane flier. George was a lifelong member of the Minisink Hook and Ladder Co. #1. He is survived by his four children, Tracy McGinnis of Needham, MA, Nancy McGinnis of Goshen, Sharon Bidwell of Bothell, WA and Dennis McGinnis of Rock Hill, NY; six grandchildren, including Andrew McGinnis of Goshen and one great granddaughter. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 12, 2008 from 4-7 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Church St., Goshen. Funeral Services and Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the George McGinnis Scholarship Fund, Goshen High School, Scotchtown Avenue, Goshen, NY.
