Elizabeth Sprague

ELIZABETH "BETTY" SPRAGUE, 95 Goshen, NY Elizabeth "Betty" Sprague, a 68-year resident of the Village of Goshen, died on Monday, January 5, 2009, at Elant at Goshen. She was 95. The daughter of the late George A. and Rosa (Wehling) Dorhamer, she was born on September 1, 1913 at her parent's home in the City of Rome, NY. She graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1931 and Buffalo State Teacher's College in Buffalo, NY. On August 20, 1938 she married her high school sweetheart, G. Glenn Sprague, who was a teacher, principal and coach at Goshen Central High School. Following his untimely death on May 2, 1951, she was hired by Superintendent Charles J. Hooker as Dietician and Cafeteria Manager for the Goshen Central School District, a position she held until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen. Betty loved working for the Goshen School District where her "cafeteria ladies" became some of her best friends and where all the students were her "kids." She enjoyed lifelong relationships with fellow teachers, neighbors and friends and the unconditional love of her dog Ming. Survivors include three sons; Robert and Veronica "Ronnie" Sprague of Walden, NY, William and Alice Sprague of Middletown, NY and James and Eloise Sprague of Apalachin, NY; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at the Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Church Street, Goshen. The Rev. David Kingsley will officiate a brief memorial service at 7:30.
