Eleanor Sciamanna

March 9, 1933 — December 1, 2025

Eleanor (Genetin) Sciamanna entered into rest on Monday, December 1, 2025, with her daughters by her side. She was 92 years old.

Eleanor was born on March 9, 1933, in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. In 1953 she married her one and only boyfriend and true love of her life, Dino Sciamanna. They were married for 52 years, until Dino’s death in 2004.

In 1962, she and Dino moved to New Windsor, NY, where they raised their 3 children, instilling in them the values of hard work, kindness, and love of family.

Eleanor was employed by the Newburgh City School District for 17 years as a Special Education Teaching Assistant. While living in New Windsor, some of her favorite volunteer work involved New Windsor Lion/Lioness Club, Boy and Girl Scouts of America, New Windsor School Parent Teacher Association, Ladies Auxiliary of the New Windsor American Legion and VFW, and the New Windsor Little League. Upon retirement, she and Dino relocated to Port St. Lucie, Florida, where she made many friends and was an active member of their community and St. Bernadette’s R.C. Church. More recently in Florida, she volunteered in the Port St. Lucie Schools, St. Vincent Thrift Shop, and crocheted hundreds of blankets for her church, which were then donated to nursing homes in the area. Eleanor also spent countless hours at the Club House in her community, playing dominoes and card games with her wonderful group of friends.

Eleanor is survived by her 2 daughters, Monica (John) Melville of Middletown, NY and Linda (John) Kelly of Enfield, CT. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Amy (Patrick) Suehnholz, Kate (Jack) Melville Clayton, Johnny Melville, Johnny (Jessica) Kelly, and Meghan (Ivan) Alvarez. Most recently, her greatest sources of pride were the births of her 9 great grandchildren, Teddy, Wyatt, and Gus (Suehnholz), Evie and Wes (Clayton), Jack and Madi (Kelly), and Enzo and Lily (Alvarez). Eleanor was predeceased by her son, James.

Eleanor’s legacy of love, strength, and selflessness will forever be in our hearts. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the Donovan Funeral Home at 4-7pm, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 10:15am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 71 Murray Avenue, Goshen, NY with a burial at Orange County Veterans Cemetery to follow.
