Obituary

Edward J. Sudul of Goshen, New York, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, at the age of 85.

Born on March 5, 1941, in Dubowice, Poland, Edward was the son of Tomasz and Maria (Zany) Sudul. During World War II, his family was forced from their farm in 1944 and became refugees while fleeing Poland. During their escape, Edward’s brother, Stanley, was tragically killed. The family later endured time in a forced labor camp in Germany and then in a displaced persons camp in Wildflecken, Germany. In 1949, Edward immigrated to the United States with his parents and brother, Joseph, settling in Yonkers, New York.

Edward met the love of his life, Barbara, in 1959, and they married in 1962. Together they built a life centered on family, perseverance, and love. They first made their home in Yonkers before settling in Rockland County, New York, where they raised their three children.

Edward began his working career at General Motors in Tarrytown, New York, before transitioning into a lifelong career in the printing business. He was known for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to his family.

One of Edward’s greatest joys was gathering family together. Twice each year, Edward and Barbara hosted the beloved family “Kielbasa Day,” where generations would gather to make kielbasa, share stories, laugh, and continue treasured family traditions. Ed and his brother Joe became affectionately known by the family as “The Kielbasa Brothers,” a nickname that reflected both their humor and the deep bond they shared.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 63 years, Barbara Sudul; his children, Mary Sudul, Carol Stachelek and her husband James, and Thomas Sudul and his wife Kerri; and his cherished grandchildren: Tommy, Glen and his fiancée Zisi, and Adam Sudul; Daniel Stachelek and his wife Sara, and Nicholas Stachelek; and Shannon and Michael Roper and his wife Serenity.

He is also survived by his brother, Joe Sudul; his sister-in-law, Claire Sudul; his niece, Kathy Sudul; and his great-nephew, Joey Medina.

Of all the roles he held throughout his life, the one he treasured most was that of husband, father, and grandfather. Nothing brought Edward greater joy than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved deeply.

Edward’s journey—from war-torn Europe to building a home and family in America—was a testament to resilience, determination, and hope. His strength, kindness, and enduring love for his family will be remembered always by those who knew and loved him.

Visitation and service will be at Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY, from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Interment at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Campbell Hall, NY, immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the American Cancer Society.
