Don Bates

Don L. Bates, Sr. Port Orange, Florida Formerly of Goshen Don L."Biff" Bates, Sr., 81, of Port Orange, FL, formerly of Goshen, died Monday, March 26, 2012 in Port Orange, FL. Don was born August 13, 1930 in Middletown, NY, the son of Don L.L. and Lena (Sperl) Bates. He was the husband of Melinda White Bates. He served in the Army from 1953 to 1958, owned Don L. Bates and Sons Farm in Pellets Island, NY, was a former long time member of the Goshen Lions Club and Cataract's Fire Company, a life time member of Hoffman Lodge # 412 F&AM Middletown, NY. He is survived by his wife Melinda Bates; children, Don L. Bates, Jr., Barbara McCaffery, Nancy L. Bates and William C. Bates; and six grandchildren. A memorial visitation and service will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 21 at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. Burial will be private in the family plot at Wallkill Cemetery, Middletown In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
