Bruce Lachlan Hoins, Sr., age 80, of Port Jervis, died on March 27, 2015 at home in Port Jervis. Bruce was born July 15, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of John Williams Hoins and Melanie Jean (Lachlan) Hoins. He graduated from Nicholas College in 1954, served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and was stationed in Germany. Bruce retired from M&T Bank, Port Jervis, NY. An avid hunter, outdoorsman and member of the NRA, Bruce was Unit Commissioner on the Boy Scouts of America District Commissioner's staff, Hudson Valley Council of the Delaware River District, Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 1173, and recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. At the time of his passing Bruce was the oldest active Boy Scout Leader in the country. He always loved photography and was a photographic artist. He is survived by his 3 sons, Bruce Lachlan Hoins, Jr. and companion Katherine Briggs, James Lindsay Hoins and companion Gloria D. Bruno and Christopher Stewart Hoins; their mother, Lynn Hoins; his brother, Charles "Chip" Hoins and wife Jill Ivey Hoins; 2 granddaughters Sarah and Kelly; 2 great-granddaughters, Lily and Jade; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, John "John-O" Hoins and his wife Kaye. A memorial service will be held in the Spring or Summer months. Family will notify at that time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bruce's name to Boy Scouts of America, Hudson Valley Council, 6 Jeanne Drive, Newburgh, NY 12550 for a scholarship for a scout who can't afford to go to Ten Mile River Boy Scout Camp.
